Stories closer to home

Elder Tales is a growing library of Indian legacy stories: Panchatantra and Jataka tales, Tenali Ramakrishna, Vikram and Betal, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, devotional traditions, early Telugu literature, and selected stories by Premchand. Each edition is an original Elder Tales retelling; no modern translation is reproduced.

Every story is divided into eight chapters so readers can pause, bookmark a chapter, and continue later. Signed-in readers can save stories, keep their place, react privately, and keep their reading history and interests.

Telugu stories are released first, followed by carefully reviewed Hindi and English editions. An unfinished translation is labelled clearly instead of displaying text in the wrong language.

Reading activity, private reactions, private reflections, personal libraries, and reader submissions are stored securely in Supabase. Text-to-speech has been removed while we work toward narration that sounds natural and respectful.

The illustrations are original AI-generated artwork inspired by the warmth and line work of mid-century Indian magazines. They are not drawings by Bapu and are not affiliated with his estate.
